It’s Gonna Be Alright

Some people walk around with a chip on their shoulder They don’t know if they’re comin’ or goin’
Raw emotion like a fallin’ boulder
Cut you right down without you knowin’

Said it’s gonna be alright, alright
I know it’s gonna be alright
Said it’s gonna be alright, alright

(Hey, watch it!) That driver almost cut you off
Swerving on the highway like a crazy dude
Let him roll on and shake it all off
All you control is your attitude

Said it’s gonna be alright, alright
I know it’s gonna be alright
Said it’s gonna be alright, alright

You don’t have to feel this way
Let it go by, it’s a brand new day
Even though you’re lookin’ so fine
You gotta sweep out the anger in your mind

So many different people are walkin’ the street
But they belong just like me and you
Clear and chill and I think you’ll see
It all works out no matter what you do

Jericho

I want to take you down the river
I want to get you all alone
Melt into a strange fever
And it feels like coming home

You said one time you like to gamble
Take your chance when the stakes are low
Reach around and grab my shoulders
Only heaven knows what the future holds

Is it for a night or for forever
Blessed time in Jericho
Dance across the stars into the
heavens
To see how far the ride can go

Now I’m waiting for a sign to move me
Feel the heat come from the stones
Taste the dust when the spirit moves it
And emptiness when the bird has flown

Is it something that we lack
Is it something in return
Are we ever going back
To the lessons that we learned

Come here, darlin’, let’s listen
Can you hear it, there’s something there
Take my hand we’ll find what’s missing
It’s out there, I swear

This Time It Matters

Should’ve seen the writing on the wall
He’d pulled this stupid stunt once before
Another woman’s clothes lay under the bed
Her scent on the pillow where I lay my head
He told some crazy story about a cousin come to stay
When someone shows you who they are, better listen to what they say
Why I took him back is something I can’t explain
He cheated on me once before, but it won’t happen again

Fool me once, shame on you
Fool me twice, shame on me
I want to believe, but it leaves
heart in tatters, every time

But foolin’ me three times ain’t
gonna happen

‘Cause I finally figured it out
I gotta get myself together,
this time it matters

My first day on the job, this joker
comes up to me
I’ve got lots of good ideas to make money for the company
But he don’t want to hear them. “You’re the new girl ... my, oh, my!
“We need four cappuccinos, a mocha grande and a chai.”
He’s checkin’ out my body, but they hired me for my brain
His mind is in the gutter, it’s circlin’ `round the drain
By now, I’m so frustrated, I don’t hear him when he talks
I see his lips are movin’, but I’m about ready to walk

Fool me once …

Somebody, tell me what the hell is
going’ on
How can we be so blind when we
think we’re so strong?
Can’t we separate the truth from
all the lies?
How come we never see
what’s right in front of our eyes?

This man comes on the TV, talkin’ all in my face

He tells me everything’s gone bad, the country’s a disgrace
And only he can fix it, he won’t say exactly how
But he’ll make everything great again, just trust him for now
Well, I’ve heard that line before, and it’s finally getting through
When anyone says trust me, that’s the last thing you should do
We’ve gotta get our act together, take our lives back in our hands
It’s time to stop the liars, it’s time to make a stand

Home Tomorrow

One more night
I'll sing my songs, and pack up, then I'm moving on
One more night like so many nights that have come and gone

Smiling faces
But I think of your face, and forget what I was about to say
My mind is drifting like sand on a beach on a windy day

Sometimes I think this road will never end
I'm having daydreams of you every night
I could be home tomorrow,
Holdin' you close to me

It's not the life we planned
But somewhere between our dreams, our lives get in the way
There's a tour bus, a school bus, a mortgage and a whole lot of bills to pay

Sometimes I think …

I could grab my things and rent a car,
and tear down the highway
or take a bag and my old guitar,
and a cab to the airport
where the skies are friendly,
but not as friendly as you are

The phone rings with my wake-up call
I shake off my dreams and head out to another town
One more night like so many nights that have come and gone
Sometimes I think …

Angie

Angie, Angie
When will those dark clouds all disappear
Angie, Angie
Where will it lead us from here

With no lovin' in our souls
And no money in our coats
You can't say we're satisfied
Angie, Angie
You can't say we never tried

Angie, you're beautiful
But ain't it time we say goodbye
Angie, I still love you
Remember all those nights we cried

All the dreams were held so close
Seemed to all go up in smoke
Let me whisper in your ear
Angie, Angie
Where will it lead us from here

Oh, Angie, don't you weep
Oh your kisses still taste sweet
I hate that sadness in your eyes
But Angie. Angie
Ain't it time we said goodbye

With no lovin' in our…

Must Have Done Something Right

My mama told me to walk the righteous way
If I could be good, I would be okay
But I didn’t always do what my mama said
With everything I did I should’ve long been dead
Her bad girl, she called me, said I’d break her heart
Her wild child, no good, and that was just the start
But I must’ve done something right to wind up with
you

I used to gamble in the dives downtown
I hit on every pretty boy who came around
Sometimes I was dared, sometimes I was bored
Sometimes I felt lucky, and all the time I scored
I didn’t care about much except for having fun
I did every bad thing that I could’ve done
But I must’ve done something right to wind up with
you

You understood me and saw through my game
I knew you were different before I knew your
name
You got me straightened out, and doin’ right
Gave me something to live for that lasts all
through the night

Now I’m a new girl in every way
I’m home all night, and work all day
Got my act together, here and now
I owe it all to you for showin’ me how
I almost ran my life into a ditch
I swore I’d die before I’d ever switch
But I must’ve done something right to wind up with
you

Faces

When my son was born, I looked into his face
Sparkling like a diamond ring
His eyes opened wide to the world outside
He didn’t blink, he didn’t miss a thing

I want him to be a good person,
not a good looking man with no heart
I hope he’s never hurt, but that’s part
of the lessons we learn
You come into this world
with the face you were born with
And you leave with the face that you've earned

Mama’s life was taking care of others
Who all gathered to offer a prayer
We stood ‘round her bed as she smiled and said,
“I'm ready for whatever’s out there”

Her life was like pages in an unwritten book,
and she lived by the Golden Rule
She did the best she could, and she’d rest
when the last page was turned
You come into this world
with the face you were born with
And you leave with the face that you've earned

These days when I look in the mirror,
I see the tread marks of a wandering past
I’ve bet the over and under, and lately I wonder
If I’ve I built anything that will last

My face has no answer as it stares back at me,
like a page in an unfinished book
”To be continued,” it says,
and it will ‘til the last page is turned
You come into this world
with the face you were born with
And you leave with the face that you've earned

If I Gave It Everything

How long was I blind, what kind of spell was I under
I wandered from one love to another before I met
you
And you were so kind that I started to wonder
How love might be different with someone who
believed I’d be true

If I gave it everything, committed,
Opened my soul to you
If I gave myself to you, what love would I find
I wouldn’t hold back anything, hopes or fears,
Mistakes I’ve already made
If somehow I weren’t afraid,
You’d see me as I am,
If I gave it everything

Revealing is hard, and not without danger
To show what I’ve hidden for so long,
and locked behind doors
To let down my guard, and trust in a stranger
Is something I’ve never done
With anyone I’ve ever loved before

If I gave it everything, committed,
Opened my soul to you
If I gave myself to you, what love would I find
What love would I find

Loyal and steadfast, faithful and true
If that’s what I want in a lover like you ...

I’ve got to give everything …
If somehow I weren’t afraid
You’d see me as I am,
If I gave it everything

Keepin’ an Eye Out for You

Keepin’ an eye for you
Now that you’re back in town
’Cause me and your old lady
We been out doing the town

I know you’re big and you’re bad
And I ain’t no fool
So everywhere I go
I’m keepin’ an eye out for you

I know what you’re driving because I been
driving that Ford
I even rode your Harley on the nights when I was getting’ a little bored
You might find your bank account runnin’ a little lean
’Cause your baby wasn’t shy about hittin’ the ATM machine

So I’m keepin’ an eye out for you
’Til I get outta here
Kinda wish I could thank you
For payin’ for all of those beers
She made me feel right at home
After your kids went to school
Now everywhere I go
I’m keepin an eye out for you

I know what you’re wearin’ cause I rifled through your dresser drawers
I wore your leather jacket when it was getting’ a little cold outdoors
Well, you wouldn’t know me if you passed me in a narrow hall
But I know what you look like from the picture on your bedroom wall

So I’m keepin’ an eye out for you
As I sneak out the door
Before I blow this town
Gonna see your baby once more
I know you’re big and you’re bad
And I ain’t no fool
So everywhere I go
I’m keepin’ an eye out for you

Bullets and Barbs

Broken dreams, drifting away
Too wild to offer up your heart and stay
House built from pieces of cards
Blown down by the bullets and bars

Sun is shining but it's cloudy inside
Just another fool along for the ride
Bitter lemon, sliced and peeled
"Dear John," delivered and sealed

Don't let your shadow catch you
Vengeance with an appetite
Running from the insurrection
Flying blind into the night

Sunday morning, walking the shore
Locked and loaded, ready for more
Shallow motives, crazy games
Another lover, shot down in flames

Swimming in a hungry tide
You feed your pleasures than you spit 'em aside
No time for love, no time for pain
You jump the tracks like a runaway train

Don't let your shadow catch you …

The Hard Part

Your body is a paradise
A new world that’s revealed
When I look into your eyes I see
A bond that’s made and sealed
Your skin’s a map of everywhere
I want us both to go
The attraction is so powerful
We’re caught up in its flow

The slightest touch by you sends chills
That shake me to the core
When our bodies rise as if we’re one
I couldn’t ask for more

But now comes the hard part
It’s where we go from here
Can we build a life that we can share
That’s free from doubt or fear

Can we keep the minor details
From getting in our way
Can we keep forever from bogging down
In the day-to-day
That’s the hard part

We listen to each other
We haven’t argued, we never shout
But the trick is how we deal with things
We haven’t talked about

They can send us each on different paths
If a stone becomes a wall
And I’ve seen couples torn apart
By things that started small

We won’t see eye-to-eye on everything we do
Can we agree to disagree
And respect each point of view

‘Cause that’s the hard part
Can we make one life from two
A life that’s not a compromise
And to ourselves be true

Can we do it and keep the magic
When all is said and done
Can we master the arithmetic
That one plus one is one

That’s the hard part

The slightest touch by you sends chills
That shake me to the core
When our bodies rise as if we’re one
I couldn’t ask for more

Now comes the hard part

When I Turned Around

When I was young, I would stare at the sky
And watch the stars appear
A comet’s trail went speeding by
A flash in a sky so clear

I turned and tugged on my father’s arm
And asked if he’d seen it, too
But he looked away in the starry night
And it disappeared from view

When he turned around, it was gone
Something so bright just passed us by
At the speed of light it’s not long,
We live our lives in the blink of an eye

Once I had a crush on a boy
He’d look at me and smile
I knew if I said almost anything
He’d be mine in a very short while

When the moment came, I couldn’t say a word And the moment slipped away
And so did the boy, and so did the chance
I think of him every day

When I turned around, he was gone
Something so fine just passed us by
At the speed of light it’s not long
We live our lives in the blink of an eye

I want to go where nobody has gone
I want to win what’s never been won
I want to free what’s been locked up inside
With nothing to lose, and nothing to hide

We waited for the comet to come
With smoke and homemade beer
We thought it would shine its light on why
We’re born and why we’re here

Then someone said the comet passed by
While we looked the other way
Our questions hung in the nighttime sky
To be answered another day

When we turned around, it was gone
Something so bright just passed us by
At the speed of light it’s not long
We live our lives in the blink of an eye

When we turned around, it was gone
A comet so bright just passed us by
At the speed of light it’s not long
We live our lives in the blink of an eye
